Race Context

The 1954 French Grand Prix was held at the Reims circuit and formed part of the Formula One World Championship. The race was run over 61 laps on a high-speed public-road layout characterized by long straights and sweeping corners, placing emphasis on engine performance and reliability. Only six cars were classified at the finish.

The Race

The race was won by Juan Manuel Fangio driving for Mercedes-Benz after starting from pole position. His teammate Karl Kling finished second. Robert Manzon completed the podium in third place, driving a Ferrari 625 entered by the private French team Écurie Rosier. Fangio and Kling ran closely together for much of the race, with team orders applied on the final lap to secure a Mercedes one-two finish.

Robert Manzon finished third at Reims driving for Écurie Rosier. The Ferrari 625 he drove was entered in French racing blue, reflecting its private entry rather than a works Scuderia Ferrari car. Manzon’s result delivered Écurie Rosier’s only podium finish in Formula One World Championship history.
