Charlotte Motor Speedway Art Print: The Beast of the Southeast

Founded in 1960 by O. Bruton Smith and Curtis Turner, Charlotte Motor Speedway is the spiritual epicenter of American stock car racing. This 1.5-mile quad-oval was the first modern superspeedway to feature permanent lighting (1992) and a luxury condominium complex, pioneering the "motorsports resort" concept. Known to fans and drivers as "The Beast of the Southeast," it is celebrated for its demanding, high-grip asphalt and its dual-identity as both a traditional oval and a sophisticated "Roval" (road course-oval hybrid) utilized since 2018.

The track’s historical gravity is centered on the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s longest and most grueling endurance test, traditionally held on Memorial Day weekend. It also serves as the host for the high-stakes Bank of America ROVAL 400 in the Cup Series playoffs. In 2026, the facility remains the primary hub for the NASCAR Cup, Xfinity, and Craftsman Truck Series, while its adjacent four-lane drag strip, zMAX Dragway, hosts NHRA championships. A site of relentless innovation, Charlotte stands as a monument to the technical evolution and cultural endurance of the sport.
