Exhibition Place Art Print: The Street Fight by the Lake

Inaugurated in 1986, the Exhibition Place street circuit in Toronto stands as a premier example of urban motorsport engineering, marking a pivotal chapter in Canada’s racing heritage. This 2.874-km (1.786-mile), 11-turn temporary circuit is carved through the historic grounds of Exhibition Place, utilizing the iconic Princes' Gates as a majestic backdrop. To the racing fraternity, it is simply known as "Toronto" or the "Lakeshore Circuit," celebrated for its bumpy, multi-surface transitions between asphalt and concrete that challenge the mechanical compliance of any chassis.

Historically, the venue’s gravity is anchored in its status as a foundational pillar of American open-wheel racing, hosting the legendary Indy Toronto (formerly the Molson Indy). A defining technical characteristic is the treacherous Turn 3, a heavy braking zone following the long run down Lakeshore Boulevard, which has witnessed decades of high-stakes overtaking maneuvers. Al Unser Jr. is a celebrated IndyCar legend who left a significant mark on the Toronto street circuit, most notably winning the Molson Indy Toronto in 1990 for Galles / Kraco Racing.

In July 2026, the circuit remains a marquee fixture on the NTT IndyCar Series calendar, continuing a lineage that saw local hero Paul Tracy and legends like Michael Andretti solidify their status in the "Great White North." Beyond IndyCar, the track serves as a technical gauntlet for the NASCAR Canada Series and the Sports Car Championship Canada. As a site where the raw, mechanical aggression of the Trans-Am era once echoed, Exhibition Place persists as a hallowed theater where driver mettle meets the unforgiving concrete barriers of Ontario’s capital.
